Acolyte Training Course

Training Course Description

The acolyte is instituted for service at the altar and to assist the Priest and Deacon.

This training course is 7.5 hours and presented in three 2.5 hours sessions.

The selection of new Acolytes is the responsibility of the Parish Priest.

Senior Altar Minister Training Course

The Archdiocesan Guidelines for Altar Ministers, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and Acolytes allows for Senior Altar Ministers in the Archdiocese of Perth. The minimum age requirement for Senior Altar Ministers is 18 years of age. Men and women can be Senior Altar Ministers.

In the absence of an Acolyte a Senior Altar Minister does all that is required to facilitate the dignity of the celebration of the Mass under the supervision of the parish priest or chaplain.

Areas covered in the three Training Sessions:

· Overview of what is required for the celebration of the Mass

· Setting the Altar

· Understanding the Roman Missal

· Understanding the Lectionary
