Parish Liturgy Committees
What is Liturgy?
‘Liturgy’ comes from the Greek word leitourgia that means ‘the work of the people for the people.’ ‘Your love for Christ draws you to the Eucharist. Your love for the Church draws you to liturgical service.’[Liturgy United in Love p.4]
‘Liturgy is the summit towards which the activity of the Church is directed … the fount from which all her power flows.’ [CSL 10]
‘The Mass consists in some sense of two parts, namely the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, these being so closely interconnected that they form but one single act of worship. For in the Mass is spread the table both of God’s Word and of the Body of Christ, and from it the faithful are to be instructed and refreshed. [GIRM 28]
